MELISSA CONLEY & RICKY SMITH

NOVEMBER 7, 2004

Happy 3rd Anniversary Kids

Newlyweds for 1366 days!

ABOUT MELISSA

Melissa is radiant with the light of Christ. She is the single most giving, humble, selfless person I have ever known and truly has the purest of hearts. In her great patience and tenderness she teaches me the wonders of Godly romance every day. It is no secret to anyone that she is near to God, and His Spirit fills her so abundantly that His love overflows from her and graces everything she does. She graduated college last year with a degree in Psychology and minor in Bible. She started grad. school last fall, but has since had a change of plans. Because of her immutable love for children, she wants to study School Psychology. She hopes to get experience with the school systems by becoming a teacher this fall.

ABOUT RICKY

Ricky is the most Godly man I have ever known. His intellectual abilities have amazed me. His love for others, the sound of his voice, and the strum of his guitar have touched my heart. His love for God has touched my soul. He is proof that God provides more and better than we could ever dream to ask. He continually builds me up, encourages me- presses me further into Christ. I cannot imagine making the rest of life's journey without him. Right now he is finishing up his degree in Biology. He would like to study Marine Biology in grad school. There is no limit to what this man can do.

HOW WE MET

Ricky and I met in college. We hung around with the same crowd without ever really hanging around with each other. He couldn't even remember my name for the longest time. Our sophomore year we ran into each other by chance on campus and started talking -it was hours before we stopped. I cannot describe what I felt when I walked away from that conversation. But it was then that two hearts connected. Since then, God has bent, broken, and rebuilt us in His refining fire - shaping us to become objects of His glory and for His honor. In His grace He beckons us both to the narrow way, may we have the strength and the fortitude to follow where He leads all of our days as husband and wife.

WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED

February 7, 2004

HOW IT HAPPENED

He took me to dinner at Mi Cocina's, a Puerto Rican restaurant on the square in downtown Ft. Worth. After dinner he suggested that we should go check out some movie times. As we walked towards the theatre we came to an archway that led to a cobblestone courtyard. He asked if he had shown me the area before. I told him he had, but he pulled me down the little alley all the same. As we walked I noticed something was all over the ground - it took me a moment to realize the ground was covered in white rose petals. Where the petals stopped I noticed a box, and heard music from throughout our courtship playing softly in the background. He sat me down, picked up the box, and placed it in my hands. When I opened it I saw a letter written on parchment paper, and sealed in wax. Inside, there were pictures of us throughout our courtship, mementos from places we had gone together, and every letter I had ever written him. He said he hoped it would be a memory worthy of my keeping. Taking the letter, he broke the seal and began to read softly. As he read through his proposal I began to cry. Never have I heard anything so beautiful. When he had finished, he got down on one knee and pulled the ring from his coat pocket - and asked if I would marry him. That was the happiest moment of my life. After we hugged he presented me with 3 dozen red roses, one for each of the three years we've been on this journey together.
